What do socialists do? Since the crisis began we have built campaigns with home helps, fought to save respite care in Cherry Orchard, built protests on housing, organised Right To Work protests at the Dail, supported striking workers at MTL docks, Coca Cola, Mr Binman, Carrolls Joinery and many other groups of workers. We organised lunchtime pickets of Dept of Environment with striking cleaners. We stood with Thomas Cook occupation and were there on the morning the police removed them. SWP members were amongst the first workers to occupy Waterford Glass. We built Enough protests against the debt. We beat the Government by building a coalition to save our woods. Our members in colleges have participated in building mass student protests against fees- even occupying the department of finance in 2010. We were central to the Campaign Against the Household tax helping to pull thousands onto the streets. Every day our members go out flyering in their areas, engaging with workers and communities, fighting for workers rights, building protests, standing against divisive ideas like racism, battling for women to have the right to choose.
