What do the Lao people and state receive from the disappearance of Dr. Sombat Somphone? Nothing. What do some Lao people receive from activities of Dr. Sombat Somphone? Some people received benefits (job formation and others) from the positive activities of Dr. Sombat. But his activities were very small, many people did not know the name of Dr. Sombat until his disappearance. Dr. Sombat might have other activities which would be negative for the Lao PDR. The authorities of the Lao PDR do not do anything to the people who do not say, do negative things for the stability and security of the state of the Lao PDR. In every state around the world, state authorities will not allow any persons to say or do something which could be negative for the stability and security of the state. In the opposite side, if someone say or do good things for the stability and security of state, such as activities of village militia, he will receive certificate of congratulations from official authorities. I, myself, used to be chief of family unit (Huana Nouay) from 1981 to 1990 and I did my best for the security of the family unit (an unit of ten families). And I used to be Head of Watsop Village, Sisattanak District, Vientiane Capital, from 1991 to 1996; I did my best for the security of the village. If Dr. Sombat does not agree with the Lao government policy, he should not say or do anything against the government, because many other people supports the Lao government. I do not know causes of the disappearance of Dr. Sombat, but I think when times passes we will know the causes of his disappearance or people will forget Dr. Sombat. Only foreign countries and international organizations are interested in searching the responsibility of the Lao government in his disappearance because Dr. Sombat used to study in the USA and work with foreign organizations and his wife is a Singaporean citizen. Most of the Lao people are not interested in his disappearance, they are interested in the implementation of the national economic plan for their prosperity. Boualy
