What do you guys think about Voice Kids? “We have three cases in Britain and America of 30 year olds who killed themselves or attempted to kill themselves after appearing on a talent show. If a 30-year-old finds it difficult to deal with it how on earth can we expect a child as young as this to?” I understand that this experience must be very, very intense and on a whole other level, but to me, this really raises concerns regarding our coping skills. How we manage our emotions and cope with extreme stress is all in our coping skills. I would be seriously concerned about anyone who was 30 and couldnt cope with rejection. It is absolutely essential that we all learn how to cope with negative experiences - rejections, grief, disappointments. Life is full of them. Youre kidding yourself, and your children, if you think you can avoid them. And I think when we teach our children how to handle these experiences, preparing them for the full roller-coaster of life experiences, were training up their coping skills. Will this experience make Romy stronger? I certainly hope so. Im undecided about Voice Kids - its got great and not so great points about it. I just hope that it highlights the need to help our kids develop emotional coping skills, instead of sheltering them from the very real trials of life.
