The Wall Street Journal recently came out with 5 reasons women today dont breastfeed, do you agree with their assessment? Breastfeeding in America hit its lowest rates ever in the 1970s, and since then health organizations world-wide have tried to halt unnecessary formula feeding. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization and American Society of Pediatrics among others implore new mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for at least six months to receive benefits ranging from reduced rates of Leukemia and obesity in children to lower risks of ovarian cancer and diabetes in mothers. Even formula companies say that breastfeeding is the optimal nutrition for babies. Still 16.4% of American mothers exclusively breastfeed for at least six months. Certainly it’s just not the norm in the U.S. yet to have long-term exclusive breastfeeding, said Laurence Grummer-Strawn, chief of the Nutrition Branch at the CDC.
