What else can I offer you? I am currently reading "The rise Of The American Nation", an 880 page history textbook from 1950. One year before I was born (my copy is C-1961 an update!) and yet they knew then that Columbus did not discover America. They forgot to put that in my textbook so Columbus day still means something to me, although not our government because it has been changed to make a 3-day weekend for... the children and teachers? Granted, it made little difference to me back then, what Columbus, Pocahontas or Daniel Boone did. I did not care who did what. Now I do. My point is that I continue to educate myself on how we, as Americans, got to where we are today and what we face at our 240th year as a nation. Quite possibly the greatest nation on earth, quantifiably true, yet debatable, as I had to undergo an invasive search to enter the Del Mar Fair this year and was denied such entrance because I carried the (less than 2 inch) pocket knife given to me by my departed wife 20 years ago. I only remove it if I am travelling on an airplane or performing court ordered Jury Duty. They told me it was a WEAPON! Who knew? I shook my head in disgust, told them I have been attending this fair before they were born, I had no weapon, and left the premises, never to return. It pissed me off to think that my Mother and I had just been reminiscing about adventures with Don Diego the eternal host of the Del Mar Fair. (now deceased many years) and then this. It was a sad day in my life to say goodbye to a great adventure because our society has turned such a desperate corner.
