What gets on my nerves the most is when people post partial - TopicsExpress

What gets on my nerves the most is when people post partial truths/information, including videos, in an attempt to make themselves look like theyre right and their point of view is the one everyone should be following. If you want to have a true debate you should not be afraid to post all sides of the argument. I am a former police officer, with current/former police officer friends, and have friends whom were killed in the line of duty (Deputy William Hardy & Officer Joseph Daniels) yet I am still able to be objective and call out police officers who do/have done wrong as well as defend/praise the vast majority of police officers who do their jobs with courage an integrity. A couple of days ago someone posted a partial of the video that Im posting. The initial posting only showed a few seconds of the video because the poster was, because of his comments, in my opinion, attempting to make all police officers look bad. No matter what evidence was posted to the contrary, several persons continued to post disparaging remarks about police officers and the jobs they perform. The video being posted is the full encounter between the police officer and this suspect. I dont see anything that was done in this case. I thunk the sergeant used great restraint and that this situation could have gone so much worse. I will admit that this year has not been a banner year for the police and relations with the public; especially in the minority population. As stated in as previous post of mine. However, the job police officers do is dangerous and important. I am in no way a believer that all police officers are good nor am I a believer that all citizens are bad. I dont mind lively debates on my page but I will not be disrespected nor will I allow anyone else to be disrespected. If you dont like what I post on my page, you have a few options: 1. Ignore the post 2. Respectfully debate 3. Unfollow me 4. Unfriend but not block me 5. Unfriend and block me At this point I could really care less which option you choose because Im sick and tired of all the 100% police bashing, regardless of the right performed by so many others. Give credit where it is due. Do a ride along a few times so you can see the job police officers do then maybe/hopefully you will have a different/more favorable stance on/for the job being performed. -Initially posted to my page 12/24/2014- As I reflect on 2014, I cant help but to th ink about all the turmoil that has occurred with numerous police officer involved shootings this year. I dont know if there have been more than normal this year or if the ones that have occurred are just more widely publicized before they have been caught on camera. Now, I in no way believe that ALL police officers are good just like I in no way believe that all people are bad. As with people, 95%-98% of police officers are good, decent, hardworking, and law abiding. Where would we be in this world if we didnt have police officers? Before people want to jump all over me, please understand that I do not in anyway condone the behavior in the majority of the incidents that have occurred this year. One thing I really wish people would do is realize that being a police officer is a hard, stressful job and everyone cant and shouldnt be police officers. Having been a police officer, I know very well how a situation can go from a tree on a power line to an officer involved shooting. Before youre so critical about the job a police officer does, go to your local police department, or one with a lot of call activity, and do a ride along a few times. I will guarantee that you will come away with a different view an opinion of police officers and the job that most of them do on a daily basis.
