What happened? Seriously, I’m not being rhetorical, I genuinely don’t remember how we lost. Of course I remember Leigh Halfpenny missing as many kicks last night as he has on the rest of the tour in total and I remember the wallabies scoring the only try but apart from that, the game is a blur. Is it me or did this match lack intensity? The impression I have this morning is of a game that didn’t seem to matter to either side when on paper the very opposite would seem likely. I feel as if, although I watched the game, I didn’t see anything because both sides cancelled each other out with their mediocrity. My host went so far as to suggest parallels with the irredeemable black sox of World Series infamy, but I just cant believe that. I cant single out a single player on either side as having been influential in a positive or negative way but I could be wrong. I had been drinking since Midday and the sensual delights of close female company may have distracted me on occasions but it wasn’t until after the game that I actually felt drunk or inattentive. So, my apologies, no match commentary today, no real opinions on how we played or how we lost, just a burgeoning headache ostensibly attributable to champagne and red wine but undoubtedly given traction by woeful defeat. Still, its not all misery, I will be at the decider on Saturday in Sydney and it cant be that bad again, can it?
