What happened last week, had a profound impact on me. A positive - TopicsExpress

What happened last week, had a profound impact on me. A positive impact, mind you, that made me feel grateful for a lot of things in my life. I went to see my sister in law Loretta, who is in a nursing home with dementia and like all dementia patience, some days are better than others. I went with her sister and my sister in law, Diane and I guess some days, Loretta has problems even remembering Diane. She gets very confused and scared. When Diane asked her, you remember Sharon, Bobs wife? Loretta started crying and kept saying Im sorry. I knew then, that she recognized me and that she remembered that her baby brother Bob, had passed away. She gave me kisses and we hugs and we all remembered. It was very emotional for all three of us but I realized, just because Bob passed away, I still had his amazing family. Yes one has dementia and Carol, his other sister, has ALS but we are still family. I am so grateful that we remain close and will be there for each other, always. That day was a godsend for me and I will always be indebted to Loretta, who taught me that life, as we know and live it, goes on and we have to to take the good days with the bad. Family keeps us grounded and I made a promise to myself, that I will visit Loretta on a more regular basis. Just to talk about our past and show her pictures of us all together and of course, bring her coffee crisp chocolate bars and the occasional piece of carrot cake.
