What happened to “The Land of the Free???” Trying to pass a bill that would just about give anyone the right to refuse service! Birth control being denied to women! Gay couples being subjected to whether they can marry or not depending on what state they live in? The list goes on! What I have to say may be a little lengthy but it was important for me to say. Read or don’t read. In the 1760’s The Colonists that moved to what we now call America, were boycotting and rebelling in whatever way they could because of heavy taxes, more and more taxes being imposed on them by Britain. They petitioned the king, “No taxation without representation”. In 1776 their last petition was ignored. Previously in 1775 a group came together and called themselves “The Continental Congress”. In 1776, they declared war. We won. We had gained our FREEDOM. In 1861 7 states in the United states seceded, and eventually more states followed. The split became a war between the “Confederacy” and “The Union”. In 1865, the war ended. Slavery was abolished, the United Stated was preserved, and we began reconstructing our country. It wasn’t perfect but out of that came a form of FREEDOM. Not perfection, by any means. But we were gaining ground. Freedom. Over the years, black people fought for equal rights, woman fought for equal rights. The fight goes on. But WHY? Why do our retired veterans not get treatment? Why can’t gay and lesbian couples marry? What does your religion have to do with being treated by an EMT if you need treatment? Does America need a catastrophe for FREEDOM to be remembered? When the Twin Towers fell and the Pentagon fell and the Flight went down all in the same day…AMERICANS all over the country, held hands, cried together, hugged, waved their flags, there was no discrimination. And then it was gone. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LAND OF THE FREE??? I may be wrong in what I’m saying or writing. But this is how I feel.
