What has the Democrat-controlled Legislature done to stop the flood of jobs from flowing out of Illinois? Nothing. Legislators once again this year failed to pass even one of the several common sense lawsuit reform bills that were proposed and that would have restored fairness to Illinois courts and helped to create new jobs rather than new lawsuits, Tracy said. Rep. Tracy sponsored legislation (HB 3782) this session that would limit the filing of civil lawsuits to where the incident occurred or where the plaintiff lives. The idea behind the legislation is to prevent lawyers from shopping a lawsuit around in order to find the best venue to have the case tried. It is time for Illinois to follow the lead of surrounding states by making lawsuit reform a priority, Tracy said. We have the highest unemployment rate in the Midwest and Illinois is one of the worst states for legal fairness in our nation. Illinois needs jobs - not lawsuits.
