What hope for peace in Afghanistan? Newshours Lyse Doucet co-presents todays programme from Kabul ahead of the presidential elections on Saturday. The Taliban has vowed to disrupt the poll and security is under intense scrutiny. Two female foreign journalists were attacked just this morning; one of them, the celebrated German photographer, Anja Niedringhaus, was killed; the other, Canadian journalist Kathy Gannon, is reported to be stable. A spokesman for the interior ministry told Lyse that the Afghan population should not be afraid of the threats by the Taliban: Look at the soldiers in the streets, patrolling everywhere. If the forces are not afraid, the people should not be afraid, he said.
