What if Phil was not patient and insistent and tried every way to grasp the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in that fateful day? Listened to this song 15 years ago for the very first time. That was in my english class when we were practising listening skill. I totally fell in love with the melody though I did not really get the meaning of the song at that age... and just dont know why teacher hid the name of the song and I forgot to ask.. I wanted badly to keep the song in my list.. but did not know the name.. and not good at internet surfing at that time.. seemed like a miracle when few days later I was buying some stationery in a store where next to it is a CD shop.. and they were playing this song.. and of course I bought the CD immediately. Recently knowing the story of Phil Collins, of how he is from a cabbie to become a 7-times-Grammy-Award-winning-singer/songwriter/pianist/drummer Phil Collins since that fateful day when he met Richard Branson (owner of Virgin Records) in a taxi, and with his insistence, they ended up at Phils place even though Richard was in a great hurry to attend a corporate meeting. “Hey, I know you; you’re the owner of Virgin Records, youre Dick Branson!” Knowing that he was an easily recognized public figure, Branson acknowledged. Phil said it was his lucky day that he could have the honor to drive the boss of a music recording corporation. He made himself known fast to Branson that he was a drummer in a band. With his insistence, they ended up at Phil Collins’ place where his mother served tea. Branson later recalled that it was his motto at work: LISTEN TO EVERYONE. RESPECT IS HOW TO TREAT EVERYONE, NOT JUST THOSE YOU WANT TO IMPRESS.
