What if we could move those kids? Ive had a very interesting couple of days, filled with hidden inspiration: the long slow-burn kind of inspiration, that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. Im not sure yet if I fully grasp it, but if I write about it, I may better understand it. I had a great conversation about getting really excited about moving those level 2 kids. Now, in edu-jargon, this means those kids that are just under-performing, for whatever reason. These arent the kids with severe learning disabilities. But for whatever reason, they just arent getting it (quickly?). Ive also gotten really close to getting a BAS reading assessment on all of my kids. I plugged these results into a home-made data wall that shows the level they are reading correlated to grade level. Yikes. Ive got some work to do - which I find exciting. I also had a School Improvement Team meeting with the Superintendent, where as a school we discuss our plan and how we will achieve it. In this meeting he mentioned that the majority of our kids, in our area of the board, fall at a level 2.9 (who we call level 2 kids). This I also find really exciting!! Imagine what just a little extra intervention could do! Imagine what a little extra attention could mean to these kids who are so close to getting it!! So Im getting excited about my interventions. Im itching to get my guided groupings going, conferencing with those who need it, with this passion in mind. I cant wait to move these kids! M.
