What is NOT being said about the concept of the Manus Asylum Center... 1. Any violence that happens at the Asylum Center is acceptable and expected because Papua New Guineans have a culture of violence. 2. If violence breaks out, it is expected because, of course, its Papua New Guinea and such things are bound to happen. 3. Australian government personnel cant be directly involved in the management of the asylum center. So a security company guards the place. If PNG police are called in and people are abused by Police, its acceptable. Let PNG cops do the dirty work because they abuse their own people. As long as Australian officers are not involved and the controversy is not on Australian soil and not within Australians jurisdiction. Australias Foreign Minister can easily say: It is an internal matter for PNG to deal with. 4. Its out of sight, out of mind. Christmas Island is too close to the Australian voting public. 4. PNG is an ideal spot for an asylum center because Australia aims to scare asylum seekers by using PNGs reputation built up over the years by fly-by-night journos as a deterrent.
