What is Sciatica? And does this sound like YOU!! Well the Clinic has been opened a couple of weeks and by no surprise the majority of clients that have walked through my door are suffering from a very common complaint! All describing the same symptoms! All telling of the same excruciating pain, but all calling it something different:s so let`s talk about Sciatica Sciatica is suffered by so many people, it doesn’t care what job you do and it doesn’t care how old you are! All you need to know is when you get it you will know about it and 8 out of every 10 of us at some time in our lives will experience it. Sometimes starting off as lower back pain and over time granularly becoming worse, or brought on by a fall, a bump or through some other injury, there are x 3 main reasons why a lot of us do get it! ANYTHING THAT PUTS PRESSURE ON THE SCIATIC NERVE OR ROOTCAN CAUSE PAIN! I tend to visual it as toothache of the spine! We can all imagine a tooth root flaring up causing havoc! Well this is very similar 1, Sciatica also known as a Slipped disk, a Bulging disk or a Herniated disk Your spine is made up of vertebrae, discs and nerves. Vertebrae are the blocks of bone that make up the structure of your spine and protect the nerves. The vertebrae are supported and cushioned by discs. The discs are made from a tough, fibrous case that contains a softer gel-like substance. A slipped disc occurs when the outer part of the disc ruptures (splits), allowing the gel inside to bulge and protrude outwards between the vertebrae. When this presses against the sciatic nerve, it can cause sciatica. 2, Piriformis syndrome, the Piriformis is a large muscle in your gluet`s = “Backside!” and if this muscle becomes weak it can start to spasm, this can in turn put pressure on your Sciatic nerve giving you symptoms of Sciatic pain starting in your buttock shooting down your leg – a pain in the Ass literally! 3, A mis-alignment of your pelvis, your pelvis is made up out of 3 bones Sacrum, Ischium and Ilium, as we walk and move about all 3 bones work together in motion to protect our reproductive organs, but sometimes 1 may become stuck and another has to work harder to compensate and may also get stuck in another direction, this will hinder your movements and put pressure on the surrounding muscles, causing lower back and sciatic pain and spasms The Good News... A good remedial massage can relive many of the symptoms experienced, Massage relieves pain, and can also stimulate circulation, release tension, and can help the body to heal itself naturally. Massage can also improve mobility. Spinal manipulations can increase movement in the lower back, and can relieve the pain caused by a compressed sciatic nerve. Stretching is another way to release the compression of the nerve roots, and massages that include assisted stretching can be highly effective in relieving sciatic pain.
