What is a Foreign Investment Promotion Agreement (FIPA). It is a common tool in international trade. Canada uses FIPA’s to enter into agreements with foreign governments to promote trade. FIPA’s create legal rights and obligations on both parties to the agreement. Canada China FIPA allows companies from China to come into Canada and are treated like a Canadian Company. If their expectations are not met, or businesses ended or disrupted-can sue Canada for damages.
