What is a paradox? Let us break down the word: doxa to the Greeks was the common thought of man. (it literally means to seem) The prefix Para in latin means: contrary The suffix dox mean: belief So quite literally it means to be contrary to popular belief in your own beliefs. .....Paradoxes have nothing to do with things that are not possible-- in fact, theyre very possible, but distinct to the human mind. They are as Husserl put it: Noema things that exist as product of knowing, but do not actually exist. But a popularly well known paradox is not a paradox technically-- its a paradoxa-- or a mentally impossible feat that is believed by many people-- like the sun rising.
