~~What is becoming of our society!!~~ As many of you know, we have been retailers now for a great many years. Since the advent of the internet though, retailing business owners have become absolutely ruthless in that the standard practice that has been in place for so many years has been wiped out and replaced with price slashing and cut-throat marketing. Now it is all well and good to offer clients an attractive buying price, but it is a different matter when it comes to keeping a retail business afloat and able to support the overheads required. Let us give you a snippet of background ..... Some years ago a couple of very large retailers attacked a new and upcoming online retailer for slamming the structure of retailing by undercutting to such a degree that it was not viable to compete with him. The ACCC were brought into that battle, s was the government, but the new guy won ... much to the disgust and detriment of the big guys (and us!). We are in fact in favour of those big guys, over the ruthless methods of that new guy. But, that new guy is now very well established and sadly his methods set the scene for many others to follow in his footsteps. Customer service ... what is that these days? With a huge percentage of online businesses not even having a contact number visible nor available, nor the facility to provide product information to their buyers, where do customers go for information? Well, they go to the limited number of businesses left who provide these services .... but not necessarily to make a purchase, but definitely to gain information and knowledge that they can use to then purchase from the cut-throats! We are at the stage now where the price slashing has made the retail business almost unjustifiable ... but, pray tell .... where will purchasers go when there are no places left to sell products to them? Those businesses who have slaughtered the marketplace also need to cover overheads and it is ludicrous to operate at such small margins ... and yet the ACCC has reared its head yet again and slammed a well respected importer and wholesaler by enforcing them to allow these grossly unjust price slashing practices. Yet, what makes us even more disgruntled is that when the ACCC were approached some time ago to halt major unethical practices of a wholesaler, when all this nasty stuff was starting to increase, their response was that it was something out of their jurisdiction. OK, so the ACCC is there to protect the consumer, and couldnt give a rats a*** about the retailers --- but without retailers there are no consumers!! Is that too difficult for people to comprehend? It seems that ethics, good morals and just behaviour is long a thing of the past! Where will it all end, pray tell???? What are your thoughts?
