What is it going to be like in heaven? What will happen there? What is heaven all about? The simple, but profound answer is this: knowledge. Not knowledge of the book learning variety, not knowledge as the end of a brain-fatiguing search. But knowledge of the person of the Father, of him whom the Father sent; knowledge of oneself, of those you have loved here on earth; knowledge of all things good and beautiful; knowledge of truth in all its forms. That is what heaven is all about. A hymn that is part of Night Prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours says it nicely, We praise you, Father, for your gifts of dusk and nightfall over earth, Foreshadowing the mystery of death that leads to endless day. Endless day--that is a good way of describing heaven. Once you are there, you are eternally awake and eternally aware. The English word enthusiasm comes from two Greek words, en theos meaning in God.
