What is the deal with people? When did it start being ok to stop - TopicsExpress

What is the deal with people? When did it start being ok to stop being nice? Fifty years ago, (dang I feel old), I was taught the magic words, Please and Thank you. When did people stop saying this? What happened to Yes maam and Yes sir? What is all this attitude from the younger generation about respect? He disrespected me, she disrespected him. They dont even have enough respect for the English language to say the entire word, just dis him or dissed her. You will seldom ever hear the younger generation use words like Please or Thank you or Maam or Sir. But dont think Ill let you off easy just because youre my age. We have failed to teach our kids how to behave, how to be polite, how to be nice. When I go through the drive thru at BYB or McDs I always say to the person at the window, thank you sir or thank you maam even though they are always younger than I am. I show them respect for a couple reasons, one , I might go hungry without them, two, and more importantly, they are human beings! I cant tell you how many times I have seen the positive reaction on the face of a young black man after an older white man has thanked him and called him Sir. I say it is not too late to teach the younger generation how to be nice and how to show respect. It is after you learn to respect that you are respected. To everyone reading this I say it doesnt cost any extra to be nice, it doesnt cost any extra to be polite. If you agree with anything I have said, please share, and thank you for reading.
