What is the most effective way to show people the way to God? The most annoying way, the most ineffective way, the most obnoxious way that is sure to turn everybody off is the in your face gospel thumper. We find this truth in Hebrews chapter five where it says He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people. This verse was speaking about the High Priest over all of Israel. In other words, the top dog, the leader of the church. How did God want him to help people who were ignorant or going astray in regards to God and His truth. The key word is gentle. Gentle does not mean we do not tell people the truth when they are wrong, it means we do it with meekness and love. This was exactly how Jesus operated. You will catch many more flies with honey. You will help many more people find God when you recognize your weakness and your sins and show the love of God with others while maintaining a stand for the truths taught in the Bible.
