What is the one thing we all need most in life? It’s not - TopicsExpress

What is the one thing we all need most in life? It’s not money, fancy clothes, material possessions or selfish indulgences. It’s a sense of “relevance”, that what we say and do matters, that we can still make a difference in life. My dad is an author. He turns 84 years young this week. An acclaimed journalist, he has penned 27 books, many of which became top sellers. One, “The Long Pass”, was even inducted into the Presidential Library by Richard Nixon in 1970. But he is a modest man now. Professional success has eluded him for years. Time has a sinister way of humbling us, making us feel vulnerable and meek. And I was fearful that he might be losing his own sense of relevance. Until today. Poppa Lou’s latest book about the Clemson Tigers, published three weeks ago, not only broke into Amazon’s “Top 100 Sports Books” today, but it is currently ranked at #37. Wow! Talk about an unexpected and amazing feat. “Excess of sorrow laughs,” Walt Whitman once wrote. “And excess of joy weeps.” I am weeping right now Poppa. Tears of joy flowing like mighty waterfalls upon my swollen cheeks for all to see as I write this. It is as if I’m the proud father and you are my amazing son. You did it. You friggin did it! Not just a clutch hit…but a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth as the stadium crowd stands, erupts and bellows a deafening roar. Congratulations Poppa. You are both my beloved father and my best friend. My love for you knows no depths nor bounds. See you soon ☺
