What is the value of Black male life? I find myself asking this - TopicsExpress

What is the value of Black male life? I find myself asking this question after every incident of violence in which the killer of a young Black man is not brought to justice. Regardless of race, when Black males are murdered there never seems to be a robust national debate or color blind call for justice. Everyday black men under 30 are dying at the hands of people who increasingly realize that they can ultimately walk the streets freely never serving a day in prison. It bothers me on multiple levels, but that question lingers. Its a complex one because America will pay millions to the Black male who can run, jump, sing or rap. The same place never seems to celebrate the thousands of them exceling in school and yet demonizes those in prison. Seeming to spend 3 times as much incarcerating them than they do educating them. So the question begs to be asked What is the value of Black male life?. You see as a cousin, uncle and teacher to several Black males like Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin Oscar Grant, etc. I for one see boundless value in them. I guess my hope for our country is that the collective group of us will one day see the same. Then maybe, just maybe we can cease eliminating them from the face of the earth. #ITooAmAmerica
