What is this small shrubby tree with black (and a couple of green) fruits? Its on Jekyll Island, GA. Guesses have been black olive (fruit doesnt really look like an olive to me?) and Sideroxylon lanuginosum aka Bumelia lanuginose (but it doesnt have thorns, is not spiny). I tasted one and it was sort of sweet, like a kiwi, with the pit taking up most of the fruit. Ive seen it growing in the area behind the dunes and in the wooded edge along a bike path. Help?
