What price transparency? asks deputy as electronic voting is dismissed - GUERNSEY ‘YOU cannot put a price on transparency and accountability,’ said a deputy who has argued against ditching plans for electronic voting. Mary Lowe, pictured, was speaking after the States Assembly and Constitution Committee recommended abandoning long-standing calls for a simultaneous voting system on cost grounds – it estimated it would cost between £17,000 and £22,000. ‘They are on about cost, but what is the cost of accountability?’ said Deputy Lowe. ‘They’ve said in the report that the maximum cost of an electronic system would be £30,000, but the report also says we could have a much cheaper wireless system at £17,000 and there are companies out there who have said that they can provide a reasonably priced system to the States, so I am quite surprised by the figures that have been put forward in the report.’ GUERNSEY PRESS Report : bit.ly/ZFLB07
