What type of access do you need? Spotlight on Daniel Ruell, National Account Manager at Procter Machine Guarding. linkedin/in/danielruell Daniel handles the sales and specification of modular systems and perimeter guards within Procter, One of the most frequently asked question and point of discussion is what types of openings can you have and do you need on your perimeter guard. “Large openings on perimeter guards can be satisfied by a number of different doors: - Double doors, with or without a head rail - Sliding doors with various track locations (top rail, centre rail, floor runners etc.) - Cantilever doors - Various other options There are pro’s and con’s to all of these different variations of creating a door or gate into an enclosure. The important thing to consider when specifying a door is what is the functionality? - How often will it be used? This effects durability and general style of gate - What needs to pass through the opening? Is it people, product or Vehicle - How will products or components be transported through? Crane or forklift etc. There are associated cost implications with all these different options but a solution that has been particularly popular because it’s simple and cost effective is a double door without a head rail. This allows you to gain ample access for a forklift or overhead crane as you have no vertical obstruction once the doors are open, typically we would specify drop bolts for a secure close but also to allow the user to have doors in a fixed open position. On a double door without a head rail we need to consider door weight as this will have a much greater effect on the door post, a sufficiently sized post with a substantial base-plate will allow the opening without un-wanted flex. We are mainly customer driven on interlocks and can create the necessary brackets in order to allow them to fit to the doors with minimal work required on site.” Procter is the leading UK supplier of Satech, with its extensive knowledge of guarding requirements and their ability to customise off the shelf products, Procter can deliver complete and competitive solutions.
