What type of chemical bond in ammonium chloride? NH4Cl consists of ionic, covalent and coordinate bonds. The compound exists as NH4(+) and Cl(-) ions. Therefore in between two ions there is electro static forces hence form ionic bond. NH4(+) forms when the lone pair of N in NH3 donates them to a proton. This reaction forms a coordinate bond. Then in NH3, N and H shares electron pairs forming 3 N-H covalent bonds.
