What was that? OK, I admit Im powerless over posting marmot pup images. I just love these little guys. This was taken the last day the road was open to the top. I spent most of the morning with Mamma Marmot and this pup - she was one of the more bashful pups, and didnt like to stray too far from mamma. They were pretty far from the communal sunning rock, at the edge of a shelf that dropped steeply to another shelf, which then drops steeply down to Abyss Lake, between Evans and Mt Bierstadt. The pair were eating and eating to put on weight for their long winter hibernation. Mamma Marmot is pretty accustomed to me hanging out and doesnt mind posing for me, but this little pup would jump at practically anything - ravens flying over, for instance. Shed jump at anything. She was behind this rock - out of my view - when a nearby pika let out a series of barks. She popped up behind the rock just long enough for me to snag a few images - this was the only usable one from the series because she was moving so fast (and that was at 11fps), and immediately made a beeline towards Mamma Marmot. a6000+70-200 @200mm, 1/320sec, f/5.6, ISO160
