What we have is a failure in ideology; a fundamental lack of understanding of human nature. That the US govt would tell its only reliable ally in the Middle East to ceasefire against an enemy that has been firing missiles at it for some seven years is unfathomable. That the US govt would finalize an $11 billion arms deal with Qatar (backer of Hamas) is unsettling. With hundreds of Muslims and Christians being slaughtered in Iraq and Syria on a weekly basis, the US is focused on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and singling out Israel as if it were the culprit. Last week I sat in Senator Dianne Feinsteins (D-CA) office (along with my CUFI colleagues) and listened to her staffer condescendingly explain to us why allowing Iran to pursue its nuclear ambitions was a good thing. When Randal Neal and I questioned the staffers judgment (citing sources that identified the fact that Iran was not complying with the restrictions placed on it), he dismissed us out of hand. It was when Senator Feinsteins staffer used the analogy of a parent and child that I was convinced that political correctness, the fallacy of fairness and butterflies were running our foreign policy. Staffer to me: Do you have children? Me: Yes. I have six. Staffer: Its like when your child does something wrong and hes trying to hide it. You want to get to the bottom of it (and something more because I cant remember - it was that trivial). Me: Well, the problem I have with your analogy is that I knew when my children did something wrong - I could tell. They are my children. So the investigation would not last very long. Wed move swiftly to the next stage. When the staffer compared one of the most brutal regimes (and leading sponsors of state terrorism) with a naughty child my heart sank into my stomach. My theory had been confirmed. Our enemies (and Israels) are making deadly calculations and seizing the opportunity to deal us a crippling blow, and our leaders think this is an episode of Blues Clues. I mean, we were actually told that Iran should be allowed to build ICBMs because 18 other nations in the region have them, and it wouldnt be fair to deny Iran. I am glad that I am a man of faith (in the G-d of Abraham), otherwise I would be depressed to see what Im seeing. But I know that there is a plan unfolding, and that G-d is ultimately in control of these affairs. So, I press on - as you should. Not scared, just sober; and gearing up for one of the most intense school years Ive ever experienced. Wouldnt miss it for the world. #ZionStandUp
