What would you do if you had very limited finances, was renting a room, had no savings and was told by your roommate, your 12 year old dog has to go. The reality of finding another room to rent with a dog is tough, factor in no car, so the rental must be close to public transportation. Thankful for the shelter intervention program, Amanda was able to provide an alternative. DDR is paying for a dog run where the senior dog will be safe while the dog owner is at work then when she comes home she can have her dog in her room. Today we found out that the roommate who is protesting the dog being in the home is moving out by the end of the month so the dog run situation will be a temporary one. A friend of the dog owner is lending her support in helping with the care of the dog. Sometimes, at the darkest moment, you cant see alternatives to the only answer to a problem. In this case, surrendering her senior dog was her only answer, she was distraught. Kind words, slowing the process down long enough to consider some creative options and buying a small dog run at Home Depot which DDR paid for is what prevented this dog from tnering the shelter.
