Whatever movement, religion, class, fraternity or sorority you want to belong to, membership and acceptance is always preceded by a test of your worth. Bar mitzvahs, confirmations, hazing rituals, oaths of allegiance, receiving sacraments verbalized as mantras are some of these tests. You are expected to prove your mettle at humiliating talk-downs and grilling from roasts. When you reach the point where you have been stripped of your morales and core values and unlearned whatever sense of self you had woven as your mystique, what is left is an empty shell from which you can reinvent yourself. Before we can realize that we have the capacity to change, humility and subjugation to authority has to occur. How much more humble can the Son of God be, who is all-powerful, by submitting to the will of the Father and sacrificed his mortality to redeem sinners like you and I? When did we become so deserving of a selfless gift? I will change according to and in compliance to his perfect design. We will fail but we will be that much closer to our true essence...a humble abode from which the Holy Spirit can reside. Have a blessed day.
