Whats all the fuss about Carrageenan? Everyone and especially those who are trying to heal their gut needs to stay away from this stuff! Carrageenan is a commonly used food additive that is extracted from red seaweed by using powerful alkali solvents. These solvents would remove the tissues and skin from your hands as readily as would any acid. Carrageenan is a thickening agent, a gel, that coats the stomach and causes major stomachaches and will eat away at the lining of your stomach.. This is in most nut milks. I have found the Whole Foods Market Brand 365 does not contain carrageenan, Vita-Soy and Rice Dream, and also some quinoa and cashew milks.
