Whats the difference between 2014 and the 1950s? Aside from the obvious social problems of that era, in the 1950s we had a healthy middle class, with quality manufacturing jobs that paid wages which enabled that middle class to purchase the products they made. The wealthy were taxed at 90%, we built an interstate highway system, began a space program, and set the stage for the equal rights programs that would come a decade later. Amazingly, we also had a Republican president. The last sane Republican, who actually warned us about the coming threat of the military industrial complex. Now, after 34 years of Reaganomics, Contract for America, Citizens United, privatization, 9/11, 28% tax rate (or less) for the wealthy, the Tea Party, and perpetual war, what do we have? And if that contrast doesnt demonstrate the failure of the new conservative movement, then nothing will.
