Whats the difference between 3 sets of 10 and 10 sets of 3? The mathematical mind would say that reps are equated and therefore the difference is slight, however this notion would not be complete. Heres a cool little hypertrophy programming technique that we have been using for a while now - a modified version of the Superpump Method. What is it? Simple. We may only be able to do 3 x 10 @ 65% 1RM with 90 seconds of rest in between sets using a more conventional approach; but what if we turn the tables around? How about 10 x 3 @ 65% 1RM with 15 seconds rest in between sets? You may find that it is now manageable to push load up to 70% while completing this set x rep scheme. What is the theoretical outcome of this technique? More weight, more volume, better rep quality and a cool little trick to add overload to local muscular endurance or hypertrophy training sessions.
