Whats with the cats in the capital of Kuching? It sounds exactly like kucing (which means ‘cat’ in the Malay language) which is why cats have become the symbol of the city. The Kuching Cat Museum was founded in 1993 and is owned by the Kuching North City Hall. The idea of building a cat museum was mooted by Sarawak chief minister Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Laila Taib. There are four galleries containing over 4,000 artefacts including paintings and memorials related to cats. A little peculiar but a definite must-see for all feline lovers!
