What’s going on Tuesday? (Joey Bada$$, Speedy Ortiz, Woolen Men, Title Fight, Tele Novella, Merely & more) Source: brooklynvegan:– Joey Bada$$ @ NXNE 2013 (more by David Andrako) You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights… Joey Bada$$, Vince Staples, CJ Fly, Kirk Knight, Nyck Caution @ Irving Plaza 19 year old Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ does a lot of justice to the rap that was coming out of his hometown around the time he was born. Three members of his Pro Era crew are on this bill too, as is Vince Staples who first caught our ears because of his Odd Future and Black Hippy collaborations but has been progressing into his own dark and self-serious artist. Speedy Ortiz, Hunters, Palehound, Bong Wish @ Death by Audio Another high-quality show farewell show at Death by Audio, with indie rockers Speedy Ortiz (fresh off dates with Ex Hex) and wild Brooklynites Hunters, both of whom have played DbA many times over the years. Hamish Kilgour, Woolen Men, EZTV, Cassie Ramone @ Shea Stadium Portland, OR’s Woolen Men have a minimalistic style that owes much to Wire and early Flying Nun, with no extraneous instrumentation getting in the way. They’re good. This whole bill is quality, with Flying Nun alumn Hamish Kilgour, the jangly powerpop of EZTV and fomer Vivian Girl / Babies singer Cassie Ramoe. Tele Novella, Sunflower Bean, Sunbears!, Truthers @ Glasslands Austin’s Tele Novella features members of Voxtrot and Agent Ribbons and make music indebted to twangy ’60s pop and country. This is their first NYC show. Beatrice Eli, Beldina, Baba Stiltz, Merely, Mr. Tophat and Art Alfie, Hot Baby Carl (DJ Set) @ Baby’s All Right This is a night called “Sweden Makes Music” featuring an all Scandinavian bill, highlighted by Merely who is signed to Sincerely Yours (the label run by The Tough Alliance). This show is free with RSVP. Glass Elephant, Wild Leaves, Andrew Cedermark, Nathan Xander @ Knitting Factory A former member of Titus Andronicus, Andrew Cedermark makes laid-back rock that fits right in on Underwater Peoples (former home of Real Estate). Circa Survive, Title Fight, Tera Melos @ Best Buy Theater Circa Survive headline this show, but if you’re going we especially recommend catching Title Fight who bring elements of post-hardcore, punk, shoegaze and more into a mix that’s been progressing on each new release. Math rockers Tera Melos kick off the night and they’re worth seeing too. Seu Jorge @ Blue Note Best known here in America for acting in City of God and The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (which he scored using only acoustic, Portuguese David Bowie covers), but Brazilian artist Seu Jorge has been making music since the ’90s. This is part of his eight-night run at the Blue Note. For all of tonight’s shows, and tomorrow’s, check out our NYC concert calendar. For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too. ————- — Follow @BrooklynVegan on Twitter. Follow @bvChicago for just Chicago stuff. Also follow @bvAustin for just Austin stuff.
