What’s the big deal? Nobody lives there anyhow, eh. On this day, 1978, the Soviet satellite, Kosmos 954 crashed back down to earth and spread its debris all along Canada’s Northwest Territory. The problem was that the satellite contained a nuclear reactor which fail to disengage before its fall out of orbit. Canada sent a bill to the Soviet Union for $6 million; they eventually paid $3 million. You can tell the NW Territory is a hotbed. The current population of the whole place is about 44,000. That heartwarming thermometer reading is from the capital, Yellowknife which probably has 90% of the total population.
