It is a story regarding the farmer in simple dress and the onefrom the city in borrowed garments to impress others. Both were co travelers on a deserted village road. The onefrom the city hit upon a plan to enrich himself clandestinely at the cost ofthe apparently looking a simpleton farmer. He approached the farmer and introduced himself as KhawjaAbdul Rehman from Maisuma. The farmer introduced himself as Gaffare fromZaneapur. Thereafter, the farmer addressed him as Khwajea Sabh and Khwajea sabhaddressed him as Gaffarea, though Gaffare was a landlord and Khawjea Sabh hadhis immovable property on 544 sq. ft land in the city. Khawjea Sabh: “Gaffara, to make the boring journey pleasant;let us narrate stories to each other without casting any doubts. The one whomay cast doubt will be a loser and shall have to pay Rs.100 to the winner. Gaffara accepted the suggestion floated by khawjae Sabh. Acoin was tossed and Khawjea Sabh opted to initiate. Khwajea Sabh: Once dark clouds were so dense that birds tookthe mid day as mid night and went to their nests. My father went upstairs atopthe roof with a big pole in his hand and pushed the clouds aside to the otherside of the border. Any doubt? Gaffara: “No doubt. What is there to doubt about? Go ahead. Khawjea Sabh: “Syed Ali Shah Gillani raised hue and cry. Hesuggested that the clouds be pushed across the tunnel. My father a staunchfollower of Yasin Malik, JKLF Chief did not agree. Soon Syed ali Shah Gillanideclared shut down and hurtal. Stone pelting ensued on either side. People withbruises and minor injuries were interviewed by the media. Both accused theState and the Central Governments. Human Rights Commission too believed them.Any doubt on the intelligence of our people?” “No doubt. What isthere to doubt about? Go ahead” said Gaffarea. Khawjea Sabh: “My father never tells a lie. He offers Nimazfive times a day. He grew floating beard after 1990 in testimony of his being apious Musalman. I reiterate that he never tells a lie. He says that Butea kudieJagmohanun”. Any doubt?” Gaffare: “No doubt. What is there to doubt about? Go ahead.Even Mani Shanker Ayer said so. NC, Congress, Jamati Islami, Bureaucracy saysso. Even I say so, though I looted my Pundit neighbours, hanged Sarwanand Premiand his son, I killed Naib Tehsildar Brij Nath Raina who was looking for hismissing father, I killed Lassa Koul Director All India Radio when he was on wayto see his ailing father, I killed two delinquent brothers, namely Nanea buteaand his brother, I killed two Pundits at butea bunie Chattabal who were thecare takers of their cripple mother. Khwaje Sabh: “No doubt. What is there to doubt about? Now itis your turn.” Gaffarea: “We were rich from ages, and you were poorest ofthe poor. Any doubt? “No doubt. What is there to doubt about? Go ahead”, saidKhwajae Sabh. Gaffarea: “One day your father begged my father ten kg. ofwheat worth Rs.75, lest you die of starvation. Any doubt? Khwajea Sabh: “No doubt. What is there to doubt about? Goahead. Gaffare: “As promised by your father, you have to pay me thecost of wheat if you believe my story and want to keep the promise of your deadfather. Otherwise, I don’t mind if you cast doubt on my story”. Khawjea Sabh went into deep thought, moving his thumb up anddown on the knots of his fingers to calculate profit and loss. He came to theconclusion that wheat was cheaper and paid Gaffarea Rs.75 cost of wheat.
