Wheeler UMC Announces Mission Trips to Costa Rica (2014) and Brazil (2015) The Wheeler United Methodist Church Outreach and Missions Committee is excited to announce upcoming international mission trips to Costa Rica and Brazil for 2014 and 2015. After prayerful consideration of many worthwhile projects and needs, the committee has selected two projects that it feels members and friends of Wheeler United Methodist Church can help make the most difference. The first trip will be to Costa Rica from September 20-27*, 2014. Up to 20 participants will travel to a rural town in Costa Rica and assist a United Methodist Missionary who is currently working to plant and build new churches. The two primary emphases of this trip will be assisting in the construction of a new church sanctuary and Vacation Bible School with children in rural surrounding communities. Participants will cover their own airfare, lodging, food and transportation in Costa Rica. The Mission Committee hopes to raise around $6,000 to cover the expenses for building the church sanctuary and for Vacation Bible School. The second trip planned is what we are calling a follow-up or return trip to the Amazon Region of Brazil to continue our partnership with two remote villages along the Manaquiri River (a tributary of the Amazon River). The two villages, Oro Verde and Bela Vista, are very remote and need a lot of help. Dates for this trip will be April 13-19.* The team will consist of up to 15 participants whose two primary emphases will be providing medical care and construction type work. Participants will cover their own airfare, immunizations, travel visa and transportation. The Mission Committee hopes to raise around $15,000 to cover the expenses of the boat (the only way we can access the villages) and the medical supplies.
