When Ekiti North Got Reward Of Credible Election~#THISDAY 05 Oct 2013 FOR THE INDIGENES OF EKITI NORTH IT WAS JOY WHEN HON. BIMBO DARAMOLA, WHO REPRESENTS THE CONSTITUENCY IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRIBUTED EQUIPMENT AS PART OF HIS EFFORTS TO EMPOWER his CONSTITUENCY. It is no longer news that the reward of electing a credible representative would attract a credible representation. For people of Ekiti North Federal Constituency, they have not stopped ripping from the seed they sowed during the 2011 general election, when they came out to vote en mass for Bimbo Daramola, to represent them in the lower chamber of the National Assembly. It would be recalled that after the election, Daramola during one of the meetings with constituents, said: “I have chosen a different path in politics, that of service to the greater number of people over and above self,” but many thought it as an empty promise. But he has however, distinguished himself from other politicians within the area. Since he was elected, he has embarked on massive projects within his constituency. He has also organised various empowerment programmes to reduce poverty in his constituency. At a recent event titled: “Abomire 2”, two 58-sitter buses were donated to the constituency to reduce the stress the people of the constituency were facing in assessing other communities within the constituency. Also distributed were 11 cars (made of Camry, Chrysler and other brands), motorcycles, generator sets, sewing machines, LED television sets, Clippers, grinding machines, hair dryers, Ceiling fans and cash to start a mini trade. Speaking at the event, the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who was unavoidably absent but represented by his Deputy, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, described Daramola as an ‘actualiser, a giver who does not expect reward from anybody’. According to his, Daramola is a honourable, in words and indeed. “He is also a man of substance, integrity, a man who keeps to his promises and a man whom everybody like to be associated with.” He further thanked Daramola for the buses he donated, which he said would make it easier for the people of the constituency to move from one place to another. “We thank you for complementing the efforts of the state government and I pray that whatever you lay your hands on will proper.” Daramola, who also spoke at the event, said Abomire is a daily experience not a one-day event/ or annual experience. “Day after day that I have the privilege to support my constituents in one way or the other as I have done severally by God’s grace in the past two years, I have done my best to meet our people’s needs. “This event is founded on a heart of representation, and to assure the people that this position has not changed the Bimbo Daramola they elected in 2011,and to assure my people that at all times they come first in my mind. “It is instructive to note that in one of my many journeys to Ekiti to meet with NUT in my constituency, God saved me from a ghastly motor accident at llasa-Ekiti, but I give glory to God and thank the people, for their prayers, the prayers of the ordinary people must have helped to save me and this will only energise me to serve the people the more,” Daramola said. Speaking further, the lawmaker said, “When I proposed the idea of this second reunion and engagement titled “Abomire” with my people and constituents, not a few of my friends, colleagues, even constituents felt that it is not the best thing to do! Indeed a lot of my close relatives are still literally fighting me for choosing to go ahead.” Their arguments for not accepting the decision, according to him, were based on a plethora of reasons. While some said what have you done for yourself ever since you assumed this position? Others said none of my predecessors has ever done empowerment twice in this constituency! Some even said; “you don’t do things in half measures, and this will be at huge personal expense considering the little resources available.” They also said: “I try to carry the burden of everyone, that most people do not appreciate these efforts, and some also said from the Nigerian example, when you serve your people so much, they come back to blame you at the end. Lastly some said you have two years to go and the future is uncertain but I am driven by certain things; one, my pact with the people when I came into office that I will serve them with all I have; also as I said in 2006 “that by my commitment, my constituency will be a reference point of development.” Unfortunately, Daramola said, “due to certain circumstances, I was not able to carry out this vision but now that God has given me the grace, I intend to use the full resources at my disposal to serve the people because 1 believe that the position I am in today, I owe it to God Almighty, my party, and the good people of Oye/lkole Federal Constituency 1 for which I am most grateful. And this is another opportunity to express my appreciation to them. “I will never take them for granted at least to be different as it is often said that politicians have done in the past. I also believe that the bible says that there is nothing we have that is not given to us from above and so I am also using it as a way to appreciate God, because if I consider my account balance, it will be impossible to contemplate this event but as I often say I have a pact I must keep. “Also, I can remember vividly that back in the days, during our first attempt in 2006, I went to see one of our leaders in Faji-Ekiti as part of our political journey, to the House of Representatives, and he said when you vote for people to go to that position you are voting for people who go there and get lost in Abuja, they use cars with tinted glasses, but he was kind enough to say that he was sure my case will be different going by the Yoruba adage “Abere tie lokun nidi” meaning that my own needle has a thread referring to the standing achievements of my father Chief FAD Daramola as Chairman Oye Local Government and this has been part of the driving force to undertake ‘Abomire’ 2 among other service based efforts despite the huge oppositions to it and the realities of my situation,” Daramola said. “With regard to concerns that our people do not appreciate, well our footprints from Abomire 1 are still resounding and I am rest assured that standing on the side of the people, which I am naturally inclined to, is the way to go,” he emphasised. The lawmaker also noted that the next year would be very crucial as the journey to elect, who sits again in Oke-Bareke for the next four years would begin. “As I have always said, we have left our Egypt and we are now in our Canaan, which lend credence to the sterling achievements of the Dr. John Kayode Fayemi led administration as seen over the last three years. “It is time to consolidate on those achievements so that we can take our dear state to the next level under the leadership of Fayemi the 1, to support him to return to Oke-Bareke for another four years. This is another spirit of today’s event.” He further urged fathers, mothers, Ekiti people and all men and women of goodwill to look beyond personal gains and look at the bigger picture, because it is only when they look at the bigger picture that places of comfort can be guaranteed, anyone who is trying to distract or detract anybody to do otherwise is trying to fetter or mortgage the collective well-being of Ekiti and they must be resisted.
