When I am teaching again, I want to offer a course on reggae music seen superficially by many as a secular, benign, bouncy music that in fact is a music of spirituality, black nationalism, power, pride, depth and more. I realize now as the reggae greats age and even leave this earth, how impactful the music my father played incessantly when my brother and I were young, served to teach my brother and I, two little immigrant children, about our history, heritage, power and worth as black children, and taught us about enjoyment of life. In fact, reggae was a part of my parents childrearing toolbox, whether they knew it or not. Grateful! Colin Bent Jennifer Bent
