When I first heard about this and then read this over a year ago, I was for an instant, completely flabbergasted and then appalled! But soon after I realised these are Nepalese bureaucrats and leaders...and thats the explanation. The issue is that of the government of Nepal introducing, way back in 2012, a policy banning women under 30 going to work in the Gulf and their justification. (The vultures of recruitment agencies found a number of ways around it, one of them being sending them via India, another being sending younger women on an older womens passport etc.) So, heres the official government justification, and I quote: “We decided to put age bar because mature women can better protect themselves. Other South Asian countries also have similar provision. The Gulf countries themselves suggested to have such provision,” said Kumar Belbase, Minister of Labour and Employment. Bal Bahadur Tamang, President, Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies shares government’s views. unwomensouthasia.org/assets/Nepal-bans-women-under-30-from-working-in-the-Gulf.pdf
