When I first moved here I was told by many people (ok not many - EVERYONE) to be a strict boss. I naively thought I could prove them all wrong and uplift and inspire to get the same results. I was wrong. Over the past week there has been a shift and my kindness has taken advantage of, I have been pushed closer and closer to the edge and yesterday I fell off the cliff. I have repaired bicycles, bought cake, paid for doctors appointments created a daycare and in the grand scope of things I have been a pretty freaken awesome boss. Then it happened they wanted more, then more - exactly what I was warned about. I dont mind giving more but the problem was that I started getting less and we lost our balance. I warned them one day you are going to push me too far and it will ruin the fantastic environment we have built here (and we will end up like all the other factories). The warning had fallen on deaf ears. This really sounds all too dramatic it really just means there are now more rules and if they are broken there are consequences. WHAT a novel idea its called parenting- I am now a babysitter. But I am glad I didnt listen at the beginning, cause now instead of being told I actually learned it, myself. I know where my breaking point is and I know when to give and how much. I also learned how big companies became so numbers based, why everything is trackable (for productivity) why there are time clocks, why there are so many rules. Its because not all humans are accountable naturally. Those big companies never started out this way, and I am now a witness in its transformation - Its not the big bad boss that makes the rules its the people in the past that never followed them. (But to those who warned me thank you! because of you I recognized it the second it happened and have been monitoring it since). So in closing at your job if there is a rule you dont like *Thank* the person before you that ruined it for you.
