When I first tell someone that I’m a twin, I’m almost always - TopicsExpress

When I first tell someone that I’m a twin, I’m almost always asked two questions: 1. Are you identical or fraternal? 2. What’s it like being a twin? My response to the first question is, of course, always fraternal. However, I’ve never been really satisfied with an answer to the second question. You see, for me to answer this, I’d need to express 21 years of twin-moments into a simple answer. In fact, I’m bewildered by the idea of not having a twin. So I ask thee, the posed questioner, what’s it like not having a twin? What’s it like not having someone to share “twin language” or cryptophasia with while growing up? How does one not have a person in which they feel harmonious to? Who do you share your most sacred secrets to if not a twin? To me, being a twin is more than the title. It’s about being fundamentally bound to the emotion and well-being of another person that you perceive as nearly a duplicate copy of yourself with altered physique and mind. Growing up, you’re immediately born with a best friend. A friend to play and fight with. It’s as if the moment you’re born, you’re instantaneously granted the gift of never having to be alone. You’ll always feel that no matter the circumstances, you’ll have a person to absorb your emotion like a buffer. We may have had different milieus growing up, but we’ve found commonality in our empathy towards each other. In summation, I’m made aware of the inseparable tether I have to Brandon and it fills me with this frabjous emotion that I have been given an ultimate gift of companionship. Happy early Birthday Brandon! I love you bro.
