When I glanced out the window before heading to work this morning, - TopicsExpress

When I glanced out the window before heading to work this morning, the last thing I expected to see at that moment (or ever for that matter) was a massive bald eagle, up close, standing on the ice in the middle of our partially frozen Green River, feeding on a small fish or rodent. It was a spectacular sight and took my breath away. So I didnt trust that I had enough time to grab the camera to take a photo AND wake Brian up so that he could catch this rare sighting too, so I opted to wake Brian up first. Im sure I sounded like a little kid running into the bedroom shouting Daddy, Daddy get up...get up....theres a dinosaur in the backyard!!! but fortunately I sounded credible enough and he jumped out of bed to to take a look. I made the right choice because it flew off less than a minute later and he would have otherwise missed this incredibly rare wildlife moment (the overwhelming majority of people in our part of Central Ontario will never see one of these in their lifetime). Sometimes we get too caught up with taking photos and in the process, we lose out on really taking in whats unfolding in front of our eyes and we miss the moment. (Okay, now for the truth: I know darn well that had Brian not seen this with his own eyes and had I not reached the camera in time, anytime I tell someone I once saw a huge bald eagle on our river, let alone in winter, standing on the ice in front of our cottage, Brian would be right on the heels of my story with Dear, why do you keep telling that story? Like Ive told you, there are no bald eagles in this area...what you saw had to be either a wild turkey or a turkey vulture. Hands down, Ill take not having to listen to THAT for years to come over a photo of what I saw today...lol
