When I have a weekend away from home, it is usually a special occasion w/family or a weekend w/friends-- always enjoyable. However, a weekend at home w/no schedule is my very favorite thing. Saturday mornings-- I tend to get up early, my pups dont know the difference from a regular workday. I stay in my sweats, make a big pot of Joe and usually eat Fri night left overs for breakfast-- whatever it was last night, it tastes even better Sat am. Once my pups have been out for their morning duty and have had their morning biscuits, Josie and I settle into my favorite chair w/the pot of Joe by my side and a comfy throw on my lap. Shes quickly back to sleep under the throw. Bears curled up in his dog bed. As I settle in, I usually go to the Food channel cooking shows. Cooking shows start 6am and go all day. When I see a dish I think Id use, I open my laptop and put it into my recipe file as the show goes. ( I love that I can re-wind TV as needed to get the right measurements.) I love watching most of the chefs-- Bobby Flay, Giada , Michael Simon, etc, Over time Ive realized that I copy recipes to use for myself and company primarily from 2 shows-- Pioneer Woman and The Barefoot Contessa . these might not be the most popular chefs or shows, but they both seem to offer food I can easily recreate and will Id actually cook for myself, family and guests. If you dont have time to watch their shows but are looking for recipes-- check them out on line. Food Network, then recipes per chef. Have a great weekend!
