When I heard about the name of the typhoon hitting the Philippines, this is one of the things that came to mind … Super Mario and the “secret” Underwater Level, World -1. Fast Forward to 0:39 and you will be able to relate to Super Mario and the water that surrounds you at this moment, due to the flood brought about by the typhoon. I became nostalgic as I watched the game. I grew up in an era where this was the coolest game on the planet! I felt like a kid watching this, swaying my upper body as I hear the music, but I also came to several realizations as I was doing so. World -1, aka the Minus World, is glitch. Sure you can survive it, but it will only take you back to where you were the first time you got in, until you run out of lives, which will force you to start anew. 1) In life, you will find several shortcuts – it can be because you intentionally looked for one or maybe because you found it by chance. If you decide to take it, brace yourself with some surprises along the way. Some of the shortcuts can take you forward, but unfortunately, some may take you around in circles. So choose a warp pipe wisely. 2) You also have the option to play level by level without taking any shortcuts. By this time, you will be prepared when you brace yourself for World 32-1, which is the real Underwater Level that exits into a new world. 3) When you finally take the real underwater level, dont stay long without the proper gear. Understand that if you dont move, there is a natural tendency to go down, humans are not amphibians. Swim. Make sure you stir clear from the squid and the blow fish you meet along the way. Strategize and position yourself well in order to survive. 4) Dont get too attracted to the shiny gold coins. They serve as a good incentive, but if you dont know how to stay afloat, you might get sucked into the abyss. Stay close to the surface, breathe. Go to the nearest tunnel, hope that the next one takes you to dry land. If not, make sure you have the tenacity to survive the next round. To those who decided to go out of their houses today, make sure you are well equipped for it. Like the game, there is a way to beat the level, but only if you have the right power-ups for it. You know that you wont be dry around the area where the typhoon is, but I assume you went out of your house because you made plans where you can keep you and your family safe. If you went to work today, yes you will get shiny gold coins, but make sure you have prepared yourself to make it through the day. There would be many opportunities to collect the gold coins when you are ready, so if you feel that you need to sit this one out, do it for the sake of your safety because unlike Super Mario or Luigi, you dont have 3 lives at the start of the game, and mushrooms with the 1-up are risky to get and are few and far in between. youtube/watch?v=dZhlUPSxxRM
