When I joined the group Birds of Texas there were less than 5000 - TopicsExpress

When I joined the group Birds of Texas there were less than 5000 members and I posted my bird art which was met with overwhelming generosity. Since that time 5000 more people have joined this great group so I would like to re-post them. If you have seen them before please forgive me for being redundant, but I hope you will enjoy seeing them again. This is a Male Golden-fronted woodpecker. He was in Terrell County, Texas. It was late fall or possibly early winter. He was perched on a cedar stump. The medium is acrylic on watercolor board. I use acrylic because it dries fast and is waterproof when dry. This helps me to do many layers without disturbing the previous layers. I like using watercolor techniques like wet in wet to get the wood to look realistic. The paintings are very realistic and as accurate as possible, but they are not photo realistic.
