When I look at what The Greatest Generation did on this day, 70 - TopicsExpress

When I look at what The Greatest Generation did on this day, 70 years ago, I am immediately reminded of the months following 9/11. The United States claimed we were going to employ shock & awe in Iraq. For the unaware, thats a term used to describe the military concept of *rapid dominance.* Long story, short...its intended to overwhelm the enemy, creating a feeling of extreme dominance, leading to an intent to surrender. The concept is attributed to two men, in 1996. I saw their concept in practice in 2001, and I have to be honest. Were we opposed by the forces at Normandy, our shock & awe, would have been swept aside like Stratego scouts. Today marks the anniversary of one of the most amazing moments in *world history.* It should not go unappreciated by anyone. Every soldier/sailor/airman involved on that day, changed the world for the better. They were scared, and did not hesitate. They were unsure, and believed in the plan. They accepted the possibility of imminent death, and took the ultimate risk, in order to achieve the ultimate peace. They are the epitome of strength. We could use more like them in todays society. I am in awe of those men & women. I thank them on this day. I hope they know that the world owes them a debt, that can never be repaid. Id like to think they do, and are good with it. Which is why they *are* The Greatest Generation. #DDay
