When I registered for hairdo school, I promised myself that I would just go to my classes, learn how to roll, perm, color, cut and style and all the attendant elements of cosmetology. Just get in there and learn that stuff and dont get involved with people. Mind your own business. The students there are young enough to be your grandchildren and you will have nothing in common with them, was my attitude. Au contraire. They are all precious and I have fallen in love with them. Every single one of them. I know their family situations, about their parents, step-parents, all about their kids, their husbands, their boyfriends and significant others. I have made a point to take an interest in their lives. And they treat me so kindly. Weve only been together for six weeks but I have an emotional bond with them to the point that I know I will always keep up with each and every one of them. These kids are like a part of my family. Maybe being a grandmother isnt so bad, after all.
